Antenova wins high-volume cellular handset contract
with top 5 OEM
The innovative antenna and RF developer Antenova
has just won its first major supply agreement with a top 5 OEM cellular
handset manufacturer. The supply contract is for a platform antenna
for use in their latest cellular handset design, which will be hitting
the market in the second half of 2004.
The contract, which was won jointly with Galtronics
is to supply over a million of Antenova’s advanced new antenna,
the QUADNOVA, starting in Q3 2004. Galtronics, who are a world-class
supplier to all the major OEMs, will manufacture the antennas.
The QUADNOVA covers the AMPS 800, GSM 900, DCS
1800 and PCS 1900 bands and will be used in Asian, European and
American (CDMA/TDMA 800 and 1900) handsets, smartphones and PDA
applications. The QUADNOVA has a volume of less than 3.5cc, and
offers over 50% average terminal radiation efficiency over all four
bands. It’s a hybrid solution with a combination of ceramic
and PIFA (Planar Inverted F Antenna) technology and has superb detuning
characteristics thanks to the properties of Antenova’s HDA
(High Dielectric Antenna) technology. For this particular OEM, the
QUADNOVA will be used in a clamshell, high-end PDA phone.
"We are absolutely delighted that we have
won this first major handset deal because of our unique platform
design, antenna performance and small volume. We were selected over
strong competition and this confirms Antenova’s place as a
significant player in the antenna world. The excellent manufacturing
capabilities of Galtronics coupled with their relationship with
the OEM was a major factor in our ability to demonstrate Antenova’s
HDA technology", says Greg McCray, CEO of Antenova.
"This accomplishment is encouraging for
us. We have numerous other contracts in the pipeline, which we hope
to be announcing over the next few months", says Kenneth Crowell,
President/CEO of Galtronics.
